The Medical School Entrance GPA Is An Important Selection Criteria

There are many requirements that colleges and universities use in order to accept students into their medical degree program. Once you have decided to which schools you want to apply, you will want to know exactly what their requirements are. In fact, this should be part of the initial criteria for making your decision. This is because for many, the medical school entrance GPA could be a stumbling block.

Schools are looking for a certain GPA to screen candidates and determine acceptance. Some students are not aware of the role that their GPA plays in the admission process. Some schools have a formula that combines the GPA and MCAT scores to screen out hundreds of applications before they even begin to look at applications in detail.

Another medical school entrance GPA determinant is the grades you made in premed science courses. Premed requirements are tough by any standard, and can be a pretty good gauge as to whether or not you can keep up once in medical school. There are times, however, that even though you have the dedication and motivation to become a doctor, unforeseen circumstances may have caused you to slip in a few classes.

Some medical schools will take this into consideration if you can prove that you are capable of performing at a high academic level. For example, your grades might have slipped for one semester, but you excelled in all the other semesters.

So, how do you prepare yourself in order to have a high medical school entrance GPA? The most obvious preparation is to study harder. While this is important, you must also give yourself time to recuperate. Exercise is one way to clear your mind. You should also try to avoid cramming an entire semester of work into a few short days before the final.

Managing your time wisely will not only help you successfully pass your premed classes, but you will also be preparing yourself for a valuable skill once you begin medical school.

Another way to possibly boost your medical school entrance GPA is to take some of the hard premed classes at a different university or college where the academic standards are not as demanding as the school where you are getting your bachelors.

Be cautious with doing this too often because it might stamp a red flag on your medical school application. You do not want the admissions committee to think you are avoiding challenges. You simply want to have a fair chance of proving that you are up for the challenge.
